018 | [situation] About 1 mile E.N.E. [East North East] from Cassindilly. This is a large farm Steading with dwelling house of two storeys and garden, occupied by Mr. Robert Bell. The granary of the steading is supposed to have been the Keep or fortified entrance to the Castle of Craighall. Over the arched gateway, now built up, is a coat of arms in bold relief, and over it is an opening for a clock face. A date, 1657, is on the East and West side Cut in Roman and Arabic characters respectively. The proprietor of the farm is George William Hope Esq. Craighall. |
