017 [situation] In the extreme East of the Parish of Falkland

An old and irregularly built Village in the Parish of Falkland, situated about 1 1/2 miles W [West] from Kettle; and 3 east from the town of Falkland. The houses are generally two storeys high, and the inhabitants chiefly employed in weaving linen goods - Dowlas, sheeting etc. for the manufacturers in the neighbouring towns of Newburgh, Kirkcaldy etc.
The village contains - a United Presbyterian Church, a Subscription school, an Inn - but no P.H. [Public House] - a post office, and a Flaxspinning Mill, wrought by the feuer thereof, Mr J. Scott. it is lighted by gas from the Kettle Gasworks.
