A Fort on the south side of the Tomb Den of an Elliptical form. It was defend on one side by three ditches and on the other by a steep ravine or glen which is now called the Tomb Den. The ditches, or embankments are now very much destroyed, and do not seem by their present appearance to have been of any great height at any time. From its situation, shape and construction it appears to have been a British hill fort, although there are some country people who would call it a Roman Camp, but there is no indication to warrant this latter supposition. |

[Note] In this supposition there is not sufficient authority to warrant the writing it so on plan. All works of this kind that the country people cannot account for its origin they will refer to the Romans as in other localities they are referred to the Picts. The shape, situation & construction would warrant the belief that it is a British Fort. |

This is a small, irregularly built village on the south side of the River Eden; north of the Turnpike Road from Pettycur to Cupar, by New Inn; and east of the Edinburgh, Perth & Dundee Railway, which has a station here.
