017 | [situation] About 1 3/4 Miles S.W. by W. [South West by West] of the Village of Pitlessie. This is a small, irregularly built village on the south side of the River Eden; north of the Turnpike Road from Pettycur to Cupar, by New Inn; and east of the Edinburgh, Perth & Dundee Railway, which has a station here. It is pleasantly situated in a group of smaller villages within the circuit of a mile radius - two of which form suburbs, viz. Rumduen - on the road to Kettlebridge, and Bankton Park separated only by the railway. The houses are generally well built, mostly two storeys high, and are occupied by the proprietors or feuers - who are chiefly employed in weaving linen into Dowlas, Sheeting &c. The Church and Par. [Parish] School, also the U.P. [United Presbyterian] Church are in the village; also a Police Station, an Inn and a Post Office; and a Public House in Bankton Park. The farm is Kingskettle but the village Kettle. |
