The Topographical Statistical and Historical Gazetteer of Scotland says "the sisterhood of the Poor Clares had a Nunnery here." Messrs Barr and Kennedy and Flockhart say that the same house which was the Nunnery has been since occupied as the manse in connection with the Chapel (in Ruin) in this village. The house at present is occupied as Cottages and has no particular name
