A small village on the Road from Kirkcaldy to Dunfermline about 4½ miles from the former. The Situation is elevated, the houses mean, a great many ruinous and either one or two story inhabited by poor agricultural Labourers, a few weavers of checks and persons working in a Distillery which is near the North outlet of the Village. This with a Mill driven by water power is the only available means of living most of the inhabitants have. There is a Post Office a branch of the Kirkcaldy one with one delivery in the day. A Parish School, where the Common rudiments of a plain education is given. The Masters salary is guaranteed by the Farmers and is a fixed Sum, but he is allowed to take fees from the Scholars.
