This railway is entirely the [property] of the Earl of Elgin, and extends [to] his lands, except a small portion of Pittencrieff. It was made [in] 1812, and in 1821, [underwent] considerable alterations. so as [to] admit of a locomotive engine, along it. There was also a [branch?] into Dunfermline added, [extending] for about two thirds of a mile, [upon] which the Earl places two carriages, drawn by horses A locomotive would not pay the time - This he did to [accommodate] the surrounding neighbourhood It is in every respect a [railway] and goes by no other name [than?] the one given in the proper orthography column.
