An old castellated looKing house, once the residence of a branch of the Pitfirrane family, but at present it is occupied by Earl Elgin's Railway labourers, On the south side of the house is the date 1623. with Hebrew inscriptions. On other parts of the house are sculptures of men, and the emblems of Scotland, England, Ireland & France From the initials W.M. over the dining room window, it is conjectured that it was erected by William Monteith of Randieford, who obtained the lands of the Hill in 1621, and owing to the style of (Continued turn over) [Continued on Page 16] |
