A neat cottage on the estate of Cuttlehill; occupied by one of Mr Burns's servants. It derived its name fom one of the proprietors under the following circumstances. The occupier when questioned as to what he would do with his Cottage, or rather how he would manage it, replied he would "Mak fend" which means make a shift, then , said the proprietor, let jane Cottage be called Makfend Cottage for the future. |

Under the designation Dunfermline District Turnpike are conferred several portions of highways upon which Toll [Bars? are] placed under an Act of Parliament. The whole are clearly defined in a Map and Schedule in the possession of the Road Surveyor. The Road upon 35B under this is part of that between Dunfermline and Kirkcaldy and is No.7 of this District, described as from "Town Green Toll Bar " (Dunfermline) "by North Fod and Crossgates to Stewart's Arms", a roadside Inn on the Burtisland & North of the Great North Road. |
