Dunfermline. [Authorities] Full[arton's] Gazetteer, New Stat[istical] Acc[oun]t, Old Stat[istical] Acc[oun]t, Johnston's Co[unty] Map, Scottish Directory, Sgeriff's Parish List of [/?]
[Situation] Near the Western extremity of Fifeshire.
[Descriptive Remarks] A parish, the largest in the county of Fife. The extreme length from north to south is about 8 miles, and average breadth about 3 ½ miles. It is bounded by the parishes of Cleish and Saline on the north, of Carnock & Torryburn on the west, and of Beath, Aberdour, Dalgety and Innekeithing on the east. It has Inverkeithing also on the Southeast, and the Firth of Forth on the S[outh] West. The parish generally throughout is well diversified with enclosed fields and plantations. Besides the Royal burgh of Dunfermline there are several small villages in the vicinity of the former, the ruins of the Abbey and several minor Antiquities, all of which see their respective descriptions in the adjoining sheets.
Are there any Detached portions of the Parish. Are there any Detached paortions of any other parish situated and lying within the extreme boundary of Dunfermline? If so state their number and position on this Description. A.M.
Remarks similar to the above were made on Several parishes in Haddington Edinburgh etc but no satisfactory reply can be obtained from the commentary -- See reply ro remark No.1 on Plan 35A. A.M.O. 15th March 1854.
