029 | [Situation] About 50 Chains N. by E [North by East] of Coaly Ford An oblong rising ground on Saline Hill very steep on the North and South sides, on which formerly stood a cairn which has been removed and the Site of which is doubtful - I have made particular inquiry about this place as the name Castle Morris on the property Plan would indicate that there was once a Castle in the vicinity, but the name Castle Morris is not Known in the neighbourhood, and there is no appearance of remarks on the ground. |

[West by North] of Coaly Ford A part of a Tower and a [small] portion of the wall of what appears to have been a very small castle - [Tradition] has it that a Hermits Cell was formerly [at] this place but the Castle (which does not [appear?] to have been used for defensive purposes) [was] built in 1592. The wife and child of the Propietor are said to have been murdered [by] the builder in consequences of his not having been paid according to agreement. |
