Methven Mr. William Short Land Tax Papers 1690 Land Tax Papers 1819 Minutes of a Court of Barony 1761 [situation] South of Kirkcaldy and within the Parliamentary burgh of same. A district or locality close to and adjoining the Frith of Forth extending from the Parish of Kirkcaldy to that of Kinghorn. The principle Street is the continuation of the High Street of Kirkcaldy which with the Wynds or Lanes branching off it are narrow. the houses in general are of a mean description and occupied principally by weavers. In this locality are two Flax Mills an extensive pottery and the Kirkcaldy Gas Works. Linktown is a Burgh of Regality and was formerly governed by a Baron Bailie at present there is not an officer of that description the local affairs are managed by 9 commissioners for Paving Lighting Police etc under the act of Wm. [William] 4th. The inhabitants in their general conversation call the locality the Links. The locality is bounded on the East by the Frith of Forth on the North by the Balwearie Road on the west by Newtown & Kirkcaldy & on the South by the West Burn or Tiel Burn.

A long narrow and irregular street which is the continuation of the High Street of Kirkcaldy extending from the parish boundary of Kirkcaldy to the West bridge parish of Kinghorn, the houses are irregular in appearance and generally of a mean description occupied principally by weavers. there are several small shops in the grocery line with a few public houses. the street is lighted with gas paved and badly drained it is the principle street in the locality of Linktown.

The church of Invertiel was originally erected as a Quoad Sacra for the inhabitants of the East portion of Kinghorn Parish. at the Secession or disruption in 1843 the majority of the congregation with the then minister epoused the cause of the Free Church movement and has occupied the church since the above date in Communion with principles of the Free Church body. The present Congregation has not any title to the church more than occupation Lord Rosslyn has not up to this date granted them any title to the ground or building.

[Statistical Account] The designation of this church cannot be written as the case stands, as stated in the descriptive remarks. The Church was erected in the year 1837 as a Quoad Sacra Parish and continued as such to the year 1843 & called by many St. Catherines church but the Free Church Synod has adopted Invertiel Free Church. The authorities given are all in favor of Invertiel Free Church but from the elasticity of the case it is left open for the officers decision.

The inhabitants are nearly all employed in the weaving trade and are poor but have the advantage of gardens attached to their dwellings. The district or locality is bounded on the North by the Tiel burn on the East by the Frith of Forth on the west by the Edinburgh Perth and Dundee Railway & on the South by the Sheet line. The place is known popularly as the West Bridge.
