[situation] On the W. [West] side of High Street.
A substantial stone building erected in the year 1795 for the sale of bread stuffs by a company of shareholders, at present the upper story is used by the Linktown authorities for transacting their local affairs and is known by the designation of the Meal Hall and has been used as such since the year 1816.
The lower part of the building is used for the purpose for which it was erected and is called the meal society.

A small Spring well on the beach between Causengutter Wynd and Brewery it is supposed that the well is supplied from a Coal Mine that was formerly worked in the neighbourhood not any trace of which can now be seen.
