A good farmhouse and outbuildings attached, occupied by Mr Ireland. The property of Mr Balfour of Balbirnie.
I have been informed by Mr Ireland, the tenant, that a dagger of Antique Appearance was found in the draw well north of the steading about 30 years ago. It measured 1½ feet long, having a wooden handle, partially overlaid with brass. Mr Ireland supposes that the well in which it was found must have been closed for centuries previously.
Mention is also made in the New Statl. Acct. [Statistical Account] of the Parish, of this Circumstance. |

A Cottage house at the west end of the Village of Kinglassie very well Known by this name. It had its origin in a former family who resided there being very noisy and addicted to bad habits, their charitable neighbours consequently dedicated it to his Satanic Majesty. Although being well known the Revd. [Reverend] A. Johnson, thinKing it merely a byname and that not very flattering, is of the opinion it should not be noticed on the Plans |

A pillar of hewn stone, having Some undifinable devices Carved on two of its narrowest Sides, in a field north of Dogtown. Understood by the Gentlemen quoted, to have been erected by the Danes, to Commemorate Some illustrious warrior, who fell there.
"A pillar of hewn stone, 4ft [feet] 9 in [inches] in height above the Soil in which it is embossed. 7½ in [inches] broad & 11 in [inches] thick, has from time immemorial stood upon the farm of Dogtown. Antiquarians have Conjectured that this Column was set up by the Danes to commemorate the exploits of some illustrious warrior, who had fallen on this spot during an engagement consequent upon their hostile invasion of Fife in the reign of Constantine II. While others have Supposed that it was reared by the Scots to perpetuate their successful resistance of the foreign foe who had encamped on both sides of the Leven." New Statistical Account |

Standing Stone continued "There is not far from the place where a battel was struck, in a
BanK to the South of Doctan in Kinglassie Parish, a pillar of hewn
Stone set in a pedestal; it is about five or six foot high, one foot thick and two
broad: the broad faces of it are to the East and the West, and the figures are upon the side of it towards the East.
The upmost part of it seems to have been for a beasts head prominent; below it is the figure of a man on
Horse back, with like a scrol above him; tis but a small figure; The North, South, and West sides have
upon them only some ornamental Carving; Its much defaced by the weather, and torn in the top; no
vestige of any letter could be discerned upon it. This is certainly Danish, and seems to have been
set up when some chief Commander was killed, whither at this battel or another which
hapened afterwards near Kinghorn, is uncertain. Sibbald Fife & Kinross page 34. |

I have been informed by some of those whose names are quoted that the name Redwells has been derived from Wells which have been on the farm, the water of which was of a Reddish Colour. |
