031 [situation] ⅜ Mile N. [North] by W. [West] of Kinglassie
A good farm Stead at the foot of Redwells Hill the property of Mr Lister, Edinburgh. This name is sometimes called Redwalls but is evidently a corruption of Redwells the latter word being pronounced in this place as if written "Redwalls". I have been informed by some of those whose names are quoted that the name Redwells has been derived from Wells which have been on the farm, the water of which was of a Reddish Colour.
