031 | A pretty good old mansion belonging to the Kirkness estate, it is finely situated on a rising eminence, surrounded with old trees and larhe plantations the latter encloses a small ornamental Park (which has no name). In the north side of this house are to be seen the remains of the stocks, which the proprietor had the power over. There is a vague tradition in the locality that the Culdees had a hospice here -- if they had no vestige of it now remains, even its site cannot be ascertained -- proprietor Marquis of Northampton. |
