A parish in the county of Fife, bounded on the north by the parish of Portmoak, on the east by Kinglassie and Auchterderran, on the South by Auchterderran and Beath, and on the West by the parish of Cleish. It is of an irregular form about 4 miles in length and 2 in breadth, and in general tolerably well Cultivated and enclosed.
"Ballingry signifies the village of
the Cross. It is a compound of the
Gaelic word Bal, which is a village
and inri, being the initials found
on those Crosses erected often in the
fields, in honour of Christianity."
