Two fragments of the wall which formerly surrounded the Castle of Herdmanston. It consists of the remains of two archways which seem to have been the principal entrances. One of these is situated about 3 chains N.E. [North East of the mansion house, the other immediately adjoining the old chapel.

014 The one gate was the west entrance to the castle & the other the east entrance. The part of the wall including the gate in each case is about 8 feet thick, 24 feet long and about 20 feet high.

A few yards to the north of the cemetary is
an old arch, a fragment obviously, of the
ancient castle of Herdmanston, having the
date on the keystone.
