At or near this bridge it is Supposed that Colnl. [Colonel] Gardiner received his death wounds from this Circumstance the bridge received its name. A Thorn tree on the farm of Thorntree Mains A few Chains to the west of this bridge is also Said to be the place where he received his death wounds. And the current of Local tradition is in favour of the latter place |
