009 | [Continued from page 21] "The splendid church of Seaton was made collegiate, by George, Lord Seton, in 1493. He herein formed an establishment of a provost, six prebendaries, two singing boys, and a clerk; And, he assigned, for their support, the lands, and tithes, of this church, with the chaplainsies, which had been founded in it, by the piety of his ancestors. In Bagimonts roll, the propositura de Seton, in the deanery of Haddington, was rated at £2.13.4. At the reformation, the revenue of this provostay was returned at £40.0.0. In 1544, the English invaders, on their return from wasting Leith, burnt the castle of Seton; And, in their rage, spoiled the collegiate church; carrying away the bells, organs, with the usual ornaments, and other movables, which they embarked on board their attendant fleet."
