006 [Situation] On the S. [South] West side of the Demesne of Tynninghame
A hamlet consisting of a few neatly built cottages with gardens attached. It contains the parochial school a Post office, and a Public house. A village called Tynninghame stood here as early as 941; in which year, according to the Melrose Chronicle, it was burned, together with the church of St Baldred, by Anlaf the Dane. It is built on ground feued from the Earl of Haddington.
