The old one of which there are Some remains was built by Ada Queen of Henry of Scotland who bestowed it to the Monks of the monastery which she built in the neighbourhood of Haddington. There are three schools in the parish, the daily number of Scholars attending the parish School are about 80 who receive a classical education. Some of the ministers of the parish have made themselves memoriable , the most Conspicuous in modern times are the Reverend Robert Blair and the Reverend John Home, the former much admired for his elegant and poetic piece entitled "The Grave" and the latter celebrated for his fine tragedy of Douglas.
