003 | [Situation] About 1 1/8 Mile N by W [North by West] from New Mains The ruins of a house, traditionally [said] to have been the residence of St. Baldred the "Lothian Apostle". The greater [part] of the walls are entire, with other [detached] portions. How it got the name St. Baldreds House cannot properly be ascertained, as there is no written authority to prove, that he ever lived here, Immediately [West] of this old ruin, was situated a [burial] ground which agricultural improvements have made to disappear, leaving not the least vestige of it observable, It appears from the traditions of the locality that there was a village Convenient to this ruin when Auldhame was an independent parish, and ever it is Considered by some that the ruin may have been its Church, and not St Baldreds Mansion, |

persons in the locality is that this ruin was
formerly the mansion house of Seacliffe, but
there is no account, written or traditional, to
confirm it. The name "St. Baldred's House"
is well known in the Country.
