015 | "Hopes Water" takes the name of "Yester Water" after it passes Hopes. and retains this name until it reaches about a mile to the north of the Village of Gifford. at which place it assumes the name of "Coalston Water", and goes under this last name till it falls into the "Tyne" near "Lennoxlove" - Between "Hopes" and "Eaglescarnie" it is generally called "Gifford Water" by the people living in the Vicinity, but. Henry Davidson Esqr Factor to the Marquis of Tweeddale Maintains that "Yester Water" and Not "Gifford Water", is the proper Name. |
