015 | [Situation] In the village of Gifford An upright stone about 5 feet square in which was fixed "The Tron" or public weighing beam, for the use of the village. To this beam was attached "The Jougs", a sort of Yoke designed for the punishment of such delinquents as were found guilty by the local authorities. The Jougs were fastened around the neck of the culprit who was for a certain period (generally a night) exposed to the gaze of the villagers |

fastened around the neck of the culprit, and attached to
an upright post, which still stands in the centre of the
village, and is used for weighing goods at the fairs.
Here the culprit stood in a sort of pillory, exposed to
