A small building about 30 links square, situated on Soutra Hill. It is used as a burial place by the Maitlands of Pogbie Its entrance bears date 1686. It is said that it formerly was the aisle of the Church belonging to the Hospital of a religious establishment founded by Malcolm IV in 1164, at which wayfarers or travellers from the North to Melrose Abbey, were Sheltered and fed &c. Attached to the Aisle is still visible the grave yard and the field in which it stands. are observable various undulations, which is said to be the site of the village and Hospital of Soutra [Continued on page 10]
