016 [Situation] About 1/2 Mile East from Belton Dod
A farm house with offices (including a thrashing machine) having a farm attached. The property of L. B. Sydserf Esqr. It is said that a refractory Monk or Friar from the Monastery of Melrose was exiled to this place by the superior for disobedience and a wall or dyke had been built to enclose the portion of land which was allowed him. hence the name Friardykes. No trace of the dyke is now to be seen,

[Note] -- "There was a religious house at Friardykes in the parish of
Stenton to which the refractory priests from Melrose were occasionally banished
and betwixt the inhabitants of that place and Papple House there was
