010 A small compact village. "On the western bank of Loch Lomond on a peninsula between the small river Luss and the Lake". The turnpike road from Dumbarton to Inverary passes the western extremity of the Village where is situated a commodious Inn, Occupied by John Millar. The greater part of the houses have been recently erected and built on a cottage like style, principally inhabited by Quarrymen and Labourers. a Slate working of some extent is situated a bittle west of the Village. It contains a "Church" two Schools, Parish and Infant and Industrial, a Post Office and a handsome wooden Pier and is much frequented by visitors during the summer months, all the property belongs to Sir James Colquhoun Bart. [Baronet]
