There is a "Merkland House" near this (east, on the adjoining Trace 5. 25-5) and several smaller dwellings on the north side of the Road, which all bear the general name of "Merkland" from being on that property. The name has not been repeated to these small dwellings, as in reality they cannot be authorized as distinct from or worthy of any other name than what may be understood by "Merkland" being written to the better houses in the case of this Cottage, & to the house occupied by the Pr. [Proprietor]. |
