Part of a moat & a Drawbridge were to be seen upon Mr Wallace's authority on the south side of the house when the proprietor was a boy about 30 years ago. No traces of these now exist.

019 A point on the Forth & Clyde Canal at the bottom of the ridge which runs in a slanting direction from the conical point of "Castle Hill" situated south of this on an elevation, it is suppo[sed,] of not less than 600 ft above the level of the sea. Every one knows this name which is a noted landmark on the Canal.
