025 A couple of rows of bricK buildings about 10 or 12 feet high having [separate] furnaces at about every 10 feet with holes or funnels in the top or roof, which is flat. They are used for charring Coal into coKe for Locomotives. Captain Murray Gartshore is the Pr. [Proprietor]. These Works or Furnaces have been in use for 12 years & there are 7 or 8 men constantly employed. They may be considered of enough importance to be designated "Works", but the furnaces at Strone are not being insignificant as a Work or "Works" compared with the Pits &c near. Attention is therefore called to these terms in order that they may be alike, both being exactly the same - furnaces for making Coke from Coal.
