025 "This height rises in a somewhat conical form, to an elevation of, we should, about five or six hundred feet, terminating in two separate peaks, of which that to the south is somewhat the highest. It is nearly equi-distant from the two extremities of the Isthmus & is the loftiest ground traversed by the Roman Wall. The view from its summit is very extensive, embracing to the south a wide extent of country, and only bounded on the east & west by the glistening waters of the two opposite Firths." The top or table of this hill is very uneven, & it is only by looking at it all round from a good distance that it may be properly seen & defined. Part of its southern & eastern sides is a high natural ridge covered by plantations of trees, & between this ridge and the ditch of the Roman Wall, which, from the n [north]-eastern conical point of "Castle Hill" for some distance forms the northern bounds of the top, it is quite
