Was for centuries the residence of the Johnstones to whom it and the whole parish belonged. Seems to have been more adapted for a mansion than a place of defence. During the feudal times, the Laird of this place and the Johnstones of Lochwood, are said to have had means of communicating with each other by signal, and assisted each other in case of an assault from an enemy. |
