051; 057 | [Situation] From En. [Eastern] Parish Boundary S.S.W. [South South West] to River Annan. A stream, which takes its rise in the Ph. [Parish] of Tundergarth, where it is named Milk Waterhead It runs in a Westerly direction intersects the Caledonian Railway, And glides gently along Castle-milk, (one of the most delightful, And romantic mansions that can well be conceived) And after a Course of about 14, or 15 miles from E. [East] to West, forms a Confluence with the River Annan a little above Hoddam Castle. Milk is a mutation from Mela, Melè which signifies honey It would seem that Honey Water is the translation of the original name. The laborers, farmers, &c in its vicinity call it 'Water of Milk' and Milk Water the former oftener than the latter. |

051 | [Situation] Between Milk Water An En. [Eastern] Parish Boundary. A name applied in the district to a small plot of the Ph. [Parish] of St. Mungo bounded on the N.W. [North West] by the Milk Water It appears that at a former period the Milk Water had its course here, and formed a Small island, And that this old course is the correct By. [Boundary] Some doubts exist as to the correctness of the By. [Boundary] on Trace. |
