A small river that takes its rise in the Parish of Tinwald, its general course is in a southward direction, although in some places it is very much crooked it divides several Parishes in its course and falls into the Solway Firth between the Parishes of Ruthwell and Caerlaverock its course down the Solway Sand is very variable particularly during spring tides
