016 | This Well to which Moffat owes its Celebrity, was discovered about two centuries ago by a daughter of Bishop Whiteford of Brechin. The well is enclosed in a plain stone building, near the Well stands a bare and rusty looking building, formerly used as a ball room, and sometimes also for public breakfasts, a neat Cottage for the Keeper of the Well completes the suite of buildings. The Well is the property of J J Hope Johnstone Esq[Esquire] It is under the care of Mr James Clark. |
