016 | [Situation] At the West side of Moffat parish A handsome village near the south west side of the Parish of that name on the road that leads from Edinburgh to Dumfries. It is regularly built, has several good modern built houses, which are occupied by respectable families. There are always in summer many Strangers residing in Moffat, and such has been the case for a long period of time, Most of the houses are of Comparatively recent Construction, nearly the entire village having been renewed within the present Century. "Moffat a borough of barony and Regality by Act of the 2nd Parliament of Charles the 11 dated 1669" There are 4 Charter fairs only 3 are held. |
