house who concealed himself at Rob's Bank on the Kirtle Water
for the purpose of shooting Adam Fleming a rival lover of a young lady
named Irving from her beauty known as "Fair Helen of Kirkconnell Lee"
Bell fired but the lady was killed instead of Fleming, there are
many traditions in the neighbourhood regarding this affair most
of which are very indifferently authenticated.
When E B Smith purchased the property
it was called Blackethouse, but not wishing to retain the name
he built the new Mansion bordering upon it and named it
Blackwood House.
