042 | The supposed route of a Roman road Stone pavement has been discovered on several parts of this route, Bailie Elliott of Lochmaben says that when he was young , a great portion of the road could be traced distinctly, it was about 20 feet wide, raised slightly in the centre, the route was from Bineuswark by Broomhill, Lochmaben , Dinwoodie Castle, Slacks, & Trailflat. ( it did not follow the course of the present roads) and Continued into Ayrshire, The intelligent inhabitants of the district believe this to have been a Roman Road. See page 3 |
