Although this is a Park. it is part of the Parish of Kirconnel which is now suppressed. It is also notified in History, and by Several Rural bards for a Pathetic Tragedy of a Male and female [initialled] VC.

The Remains of this chapel are now used as the family Vault of the Maxwells of Springkell, it was a Catholic chapel, but as to the date of its erection or destruction nothing is known it is surrounded by a burial ground which is still used for those who have a right, In it is buried the Fair Helen spoken of by Tradition. A large block of Freestone in the shape of a Cross, with one wing broken off, it is supposed to have been erected in commemoration of some event, their [sic] is an inscription on it, but it is so disfigured that it is impossible to decypher it. There is no Tradition of cross it was erected as as a cross, this being a Catholic chapel adjoining
