In preferring this request I am unsure that in more useful a course, than that which I adopt, would have been to have applied to Capt, Stotherd in Dumfries; but writing to that gentlemen would accation a day or two's delay, which I was unwilling to incur in a case which I am afraid may be already too late, and Capt. Stotherd may besides had so much trouble about the name of my house, that I am reluctant to ask him to write you again on the subject. I will
