Transcriber's notes

Hi finding Penelope, would you please read the faqs on the forum before continuing. The words from the situation should go in either the description or the extras box, there should only be the numbers in the situation box. I STRUGGLED FOR A GOOD HOUR TO GET THE WORDS FROM THE SITUATION TO CORRECTLY CORRESPOND WITH THE APPROPRIATE CONT ENTRIES /EXTRA BOX, IT WOULD NOT STAY IN PLACE DESPITE CONTINUED SAVING , mystery? very frustrating.
You also need to fill in the various modes of spelling two or three times dependant on the dittos. I DO NOT KNOW THE TRICK FOR GETTING THE PLACE NAME IN THE VARIOUS MODES OF SPELLING BOX TO LINE UP PROPERLY WITH THE AUTHORITIES FOR SPELLING, PLEASE ASSIST.
ALSO, the name of James M Leny Esq., his name is James MacAlpine Leny Adamson ( b May 18 1822, Kirkmahoe, son of Rob't. Adamson and Mary Wilkin ( just so you know I initiated a search to get his name right, I saw it somewhere else in the pages spelt as Levy? ) anyway, is this info that important in that he is on the page as last name being Leny?
This was a frustrating session, not much accomplished, if you can tell me how to get the names to line up with the modes of spelling that would be wonderful, thanks, Sue
The faqs will show you how things should be completed, there are example pages to look at. Nora -Mod

The transcriber is incorrect in identifying James M Leny Esq. Dalswinton as James Macalpine Leny Adamson - he was baptized as James Mcalpine, son of Captain William Mcalpine and Anne Lenny on 1 February 1796 in Aberfoyle. He took on the surname Leny when he inherited a substantial amount of money from his uncle, Robert Leny, who died in Calcutta in 1818, and bought the estate of Dalswinton in 1820. He was Convener of the Commissioners of Supply for Dumfriesshire from 1832 to 1866. [note by Ian Downie]
