040 [Situation] About 31 chains North East of Auchenage near Auchenage Burn. A large Rock, some years ago an attempt was made to blast this Rock But a great storm coming on, the persons making the attempt fled in terror. Some years ago several Stone axes were found near this. Most probably this stone commemorative of some great battlle in the 9th or 10 centuries during the colonisation of this part of the Country by the Irish, and which antiquities are usually termed Cad Stanes, from Irish "Cad" a Battle.
