A considerable stream having its rise at the White Hole, from which it derives its name - and after a Course in a South & west direction, falls into the Black Esk about a Mile below Garwaldshiels. It is Situated on the farm of Garwald.

A small stream formed by drains, to the west of Lang Knowe, And running in a westerly direction falls into Whitehole Burn. The ground immediately to the North of it is flat, and at one time is Supposed to have been Covered with Water. - whence the name Lake. It is Situated on the farm of Garwald.
