014 | A stone bridge of one arch over the Kirk Burn on the road from Gateslack to the Cardingmill Bridge, erected and repaired by the Parish. |
MOAT [W of Durisdeer] | Moat Moat Moat |
William Kerr Robert Currie Robert Davidson |
014 | A rectangular trench said to be of Roman construction, the situation is low but the land adjoining was all a marsh. It is of too recent an appearance to be of Roman origin, it having now the appearance of an ornamental pond than of a Camp of any kind, there is also the track of a water course running from it. The position and general appearance on the ground do not favour the supposition of this object having been constructed as a place of defence. The probability is that it may have been used in connection with the carding mill either in the washing of wool or for some such purpose. |
