Here formerly stood the Castle of Durrisdeer of which now there is no remains.
"This Castle hath been an indifferent stronghold, and was in the days of Edward Longshanks, possessed by a Garrison of the English keeping that pass (Well Path) and afterwards in the reign of Edward of Carnarvon, his son, taken by Roger Kirkpatrick, it is now ruined." Hist. [History] of Galloway
