039 | [Situation] About 3 Miles S.W. [South West] of Dunscore Village. Formerly a farm, but is now a heap of Ruins Like many other places in this district which take their names from those of proprietors, it is pre-sumed that the correct orthography here is "Collieston" from one of the name Collie. - It may also be noticed here that in the "Scots Worthies" (erroneously stated to be in Irongray Parish) was the property of the father of the famous John Welch son-in-law to John Knox the Reformer. - These ruins therefore probably belong to the 15th. of 16th Century.- |
