The present dwelling house was built in 1660, but the buildings have the appearance of being at one time of some strength, Bogrie - probably the dwelling by the bog. CAMP [S of Bogrie] | Camp | Mr Joseph Barton Mr James Barton Mr John Edgar |
039 | [Situation] About 2¾ miles N.W.[North West] by W. [West] of Dunscore village. The remains of a Camp, which from its form, is believed to have been used by the Romans. It is situated in the bottom of the valley, but there are the remains of an outpost higher up probably intended to overlook the surrounding hills See prceeding Page "Camp". *This has been a Strongly Constructed Camp, but seems improbable, from its low situation, to have been of Roman Origin, 'Trenches of Pass' were numerous in the Feudal times, and most likely this was one of them, its situation merely commanding the Pass of Glenessland.
