Two one story dwellinghouses by the road side with gardens &c The word Slack signifies a hollow, and there is a tradition to the effect that a Kiln for drying corn had once stood near this place. The proper spelling of the word therefore is probably Kilnslack Authorities are quite correct here in the mode of spelling. The name is merely two Scotch words "Kill - a kiln. and "Slack, unemployed, and might in English be interpreted thus, the Kill, extinguished, - Slack when applicable to fire having [likewise ] this [meaning]
