055 | A tract of low level ground adjoining the River Nith extending from Castledykes or Dockfoot Quay to Kingholm Quay. It is a plot of fertile pasture land and protected from inundation of the Nith by a Strong bank of earth. It is at present the property of Mr. Wood of Hannahfield. It was formerly the public property of the town of Dumfries but was sold at some former time by the town Corporation. In olden times, it is said that the young men of Dumfries &. districts adjoining were wont to assemble to play at public games. The "Siller Gun" was often Shot for on this field by the tradespeople of Dumfries in times long past |
